Reducing losses in the network, along with investments, continues to remain a fundamental priority of KEDS. Actions for checks on suspected misusers of electricity are only increasing, now that we have entered the winter season.

The KEDS inspection teams distributed all over Kosovo during the month of November alone have carried out nearly 8,500 inspections, of which more than 600 have been caught stealing electricity. All these consumers, when they get caught, are billed the recovery of losses equivalent to the 6-month bill, if they are household consumers, and to the one-year bill if they are businesses, i.e. commercial consumers.

In addition, the misuse of electricity falls within the scope of "Theft of Services", which, according to Article 314 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kosovo, is punishable by up to three years in prison.

The facts on the ground show that KEDS is dedicated to fighting this phenomenon until the last case is identified. The numbers speak for themselves! For the first 11 months of this year, namely in the January-November period, about 80,000 checks were carried out, of which 6,000 cases of misuse were identified.

At the same time, with the aim of raising public awareness, KEDS has recently undertaken an information campaign for public opinion regarding the consequences that anyone who misuses electricity may have.

The campaign "Electricity costs you cheaper" means legal use of electricity and, depending on how much a consumer spends per month, it is cheaper for him than if he consumes it illegally, i.e. cheaper than the payment he has to make in the form of recovering the losses caused to the company, cheaper than a fine and prison sentence from the court and cheaper than endangering personal safety and the surrounding environment that comes from the vandalism of the electrical infrastructure.

Don't steal the power. Electricity costs you less!
