Today marks 9 years since the Kosovo Electricity Distribution Company (KEDS) started its operations. Less than a decade later, the country's electricity grid is much more advanced in all parameters.

This was achieved due to the investments of KEDS, which started right after the establishment of the company and now are already invested over 200 million euros, where nearly 2000 projects have been implemented through contracting companies or through our own maintenance teams.

KEDS has worked hard over the past nine years to modernize its network infrastructure and services. Today, meter reading and bill calculations are completely digitalized. Nearly 85 percent of the smart meters that measure electricity use by customers are digital.

At the same time, work has been done on improving the distribution network and the security of supply. As a result, the total number of power outages (SAIFI) during KEDS operations dropped by 64 percent compared to the previous period, while the index of the total duration of outages (SAIDI) at the country level dropped by 70 percent.

The improvements are long-term, as KEDS is working on standardizing the network capacities at the European level by doubling the network capacities from 10 kV to 20 kV in the most populated areas.

These lines, which did not exist in Kosovo before, are now located in a significant part of the country, including most parts of Pristina. During the next period, work is being done to extend these lines to all city centers in Kosovo. Investments in the Distribution Network have also helped a lot in reducing losses, which have dropped from 31 percent to 17 percent.

Businesses are not also left out. Thanks to the prioritization of business needs and the daily commitment to improving conditions for them, electricity, being the main problem they had in the World Bank Doing Business report is now ranked as the eighth problem.

Investments are ongoing, as are improvements across sectors. The digitalization and modernization of the distribution network will continue, and we will work hard to further increase security supply, advance services, and reduce losses. In parallel, work is underway on adapting the grid to the needs of renewable energy producers.

The company is working in full coordination with all municipalities in Kosovo to adapt their development priorities, both in economic terms and the expansion of settlements based on urban plans.

In addition to essential activities, KEDS has been and continues to be close to all citizens of the country, through dozens of projects in the field of Corporate Social Responsibility. The main focus has been on the education sector where the KEDS Akademy program is central and among the first ones in the country, opening the doors to hundreds of young people for successful careers.
