“Let me say that women's active participation in public life, empowerment is a right and a necessity. We have it in the Constitution and laws, as well as in the Resolution. They cannot remain a piece of paper, but they must be a necessity. While women are not part of the labour market, Kosovo is failing economically. Dare! ”Said Parliament Speaker Osmani.

She has urged women to work honestly for a better Kosovo, to say tomorrow that we did not hide, did not fear, but offered all our hard work and capacity, dedication and voice, we faced the men and offered cooperation with those who wanted it.

“If we work together better days are ahead of us. I believe you are inspired by the many ladies' names here. Investing in equity means investing in the future. The emancipation of women is directly linked to a much more developed state. When women have the opportunity, they shine and you all know it. As a parliamentarian I will work hard on women's empowerment, “said Osmani.

In the meantime, women in Kosovo have been encouraged to work their way forward towards equality and empowerment. Atifete Jahjaga, former President of Kosovo. “Woman is the pillar of society, holds communities together and nurtures them. Our women took care of families in the most difficult times.

The woman is therefore the heroine of every family, “said former President Jahjaga.

“We have made progress, we have many women in leadership positions, and we have a more active voice. The wheel of change has begun to roll. Push forward the Gender Equality Legislature, work for equality in the labour market and remove barriers. We need more women in education, employment and leadership positions”, urged former President Jahjaga.

Vlora Nushi, head of UN Woman in Kosovo, highly appreciated the step KEDS and KESCO have taken in signing these principles.

“Equality in the labour market is good and beneficial to everyone. You can be the one who can make the difference. Business implies equity, KEDS and KESCO will achieve equality by applying the principles, “said Ms. Nushi.

Director of Human Resources at KEDS, Ms. Valbona Kadrijaj has outlined the achievements of KEDS and KESCO in achieving gender equality and the steps companies have taken.

“Today, 100 percent of KESCO's departments are run by women. So the women at KEDS and KESCO are not numbers but major contributors to company empowerment. We have worked hard in all areas to promote gender equality and will continue to do so. “Said Ms. Kadrijaj.

The signing of the WEPS principles by KEDS is an indicator that the company is committed to strongly influencing the creation of an equal position of women in Kosovo society. The company is the first to sign these principles, paving the way for other Kosovo companies to do so.
