Rugova has recently faced extreme weather conditions which have also affected the supply of electricity to customers living in that area. This is because the 89 km long electricity network that supplies that area passes almost completely through the Cursed Mountains.

Thus, intervention in cases of network breakdown is quite challenging especially during the winter, due to mountainous and steep terrain, where snow density reaches up to 1 m. This hinders the intervention as our teams cannot penetrate with their heavy machinery to the breakdown location but have to walk and carry the equipment on their arms. In such cases repairing breakdowns takes more time compared to other easily reachable terrains.

KEDS has sent dozens of teams from all over Kosovo to repair the breakdown as soon as possible. Restoring the electricity supply took some time, but no customer was left without electricity for 40 days in a row, as it was claimed in the media.

The inherited network in Rugova has been maintained, strengthened and repaired over the years. Moreover, in the first years of operation, KEDS has rehabilitated all transformers, as well as increased their numbers whenever was needed.

At the end of last year, seeing the challenging situation, KEDS together with the Municipality of Peja joined forces that will build in the completion of the Medium Voltage, which will be mainly underground. The investment cost is over 2 million euros.

This investive project started by the end of last year and this year is expected to be completed a significant part of the project. Upon completion of your investment, it is expected that external factors, such as atmospheric conditions or location issues to have little or no impact at all in the electricity network.

This is a credible fact, considering the fact that whenever KEDS has invested, there is no longer a problem with the electricity network. And this has happened in hundreds of localities in Kosovo, including there hundreds of thousands of customers.
