On the eve of spring, the transformers in the seven centers of the main cities of Kosovo have received their bright colors, with strong messages for the empowerment of the role of women. Those substations have already been turned into works of art.

The project ideated and financed by KEDS was realized by the artists’ organization Q'art.

"Currently we have painted seven transformers in the seven main cities of Kosovo. Each of them carries a message that has to do with the empowerment of women. We know that the role of the woman is not what it should be. We each have a need and obligation to work in that direction to achieve equality, consequently the empowerment of the role of women ", said KEDS spokesman, Viktor Buzhala.

Swiss artist Krystel Suire, has been working in Kosovo for three years now and people know her under the artistic name "Stern". While painting the substation in the center of Prizren, she was emphasizing through art numerous messages that raise the voice of the Kosovar women and make it echo.

"We aim to emphasize the power of women and to show that women can achieve everything they want in life. They can choose the same hobbies and professions as men. We, women, have a lot of power. This is also the purpose of these painted transformers. I always paint examples like these where women are shown doing 'male activities', like snowboarding, then we have an engineer, a cook, a doctor, then a driver. "Only to show that we are equal and if we have the will we can do the same things as men", she concluded.

The artist Renea Begolli has also joined this initiative, in order to strengthen the role of women in society.

"My idea was to bring a little color, with a little life, good energy, in addition to the theme. So, let's give life to the neighborhood by intervening in a public space and at the same time join the theme that was raised during this month. "March is the month that talks more about the empowerment of women, which I also did by joining this initiative", she says, as she was reviving a substation in the Tophane neighborhood of Prishtina.

This project is part of the megaproject "Art n'trafo" that KEDS has initiated together with the organization Q'art since last year.

So far, 27 transformers have been painted throughout Kosovo, most of them in Prishtina. Today, those transformers have urban views and carry messages that promote the advancement of Kosovar society and beautify the localities where they are placed.
